Abel Arango, assistant professor of Spanish, published "Latinidad, Melodrama and Passing in Tanya Maria Barrientos's Frontera Street" in . The article explores relations between Mexican and Guatemalan communities in the United States-Mexico borderlands, using the genre of melodrama.

Heather Hurst, professor of Anthropology, appeared in a National Geographic documentary, "Rise and Fall of the Maya: Origins." Hurst will showcase her work on San Bartolo murals in episode 2, Civilization, airing at 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, on NatGeoTV.
