The Raab Visiting Artist Lecture hosts acclaimed textile artist Mark Newport

March 25, 2025

The Raab Visiting Artist Lecture will feature speaker Mark Newport, who uses textiles, performance, print, and photography to reveal the vulnerability inherent in traditional western ideals of masculinity.

The lecture will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Tang Teaching Museum. This event is free and open to the public.

Organized by the Department of Art, the Raab Visiting Artist Lecture brings to campus celebrated masters and innovators to share their experiences as some of the most distinguished makers in American craft today.

The lecture series began in 1995 with a special gift from Roseanne Raab ’55, an acclaimed curator, lecturer, juror, historian, and critic who has earned distinction as one of craft’s most passionate advocates. She has conceived, developed, and curated over 20 exhibitions of contemporary craft, lectured throughout the United States, and written extensively about craft and design history.
